Ten Russian films will be shown at the 14th Cairo International Film Festival launched on November 20 in the capital of Egypt. Russia has become an honored guest at one of the largest and most authoritative in cinema festivals in the Middle East and Africa. According to the president of event Mohammed Hefzi, modern Russian cinema has undergone tremendous changes in recent decades, has taken leading positions in world cinema. The occasion will last until November 29, TASS reports.

The festival will show new Russian films released in 2018 and the best films of Russian directors of recent years. Viewers will see pictures that have won numerous awards at Russian and international festivals - Pavel Lungin’s film Tsar, Battle for Sevastopol by Sergei Mokritsky and Elena by Andrey Zvyagintsev. The program also includes new works of Russian directors - Alexey Fedorchenko's La Guerre d'Anna, Core of the World by Natalia Meshchaninova etc. Also the festival program keeps No strangers, the last picture of Faith Glagoleva.

In addition, a discussion on modern Russian cinema, its innovations and heritage, is scheduled within the event. Russian and foreign filmmakers will take part in the round table.

Soviet and Russian cinema is well known and popular in Egypt, especially among those who studied in the universities of the USSR or Russia. Earlier Russkiy Mir reported that during the visit of the Chairman of the State Duma to Egypt he discussed an increased number of Russian films in Egyptian cinemas theaters.
