Six Russian features have been included in the BRICS film festival program, TASS reports. It is being held for the fourth time. This year the festival is hosted by Niterói city in southeast Brazil. Features from India, China, South Africa and Brazil will take part in the festival as well. The cinema forum program includes more than fifty films.

The Russian program includes Tutor (2018) by Anton Kolomeets, California (2017) by Dastan Madalbekov, The Old Woman (2018) by Nikolay Savelyev and My Friend Boileau by Sofya Fedorova. The program will be supplemented by the classical Russian cinema: It was in May (1970) by Marlene Hutsiev and Fragment of an Empire (1929) by Fridrikh Ermler. According to Boris Mashtaler, the head of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Russia, a film screening provides an opportunity to introduce Brazilian audiences to film novelties, as well as masterpieces that are part of the golden fund of world cinema.

In addition, as part of the business program of the festival, film figures will be able to discuss the prospect of developing cooperation. The festival also helps bring together the cultures of Brazil and Russia, two countries that are geographically very far apart. Mashtaler noted that there were no such strong cultural ties between the two countries as with France and Germany. This is due to historical reasons. At the same time, many Russian moviegoers really like Brazilian series.
