The relations between Russia and the European Union do not develop normally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says in an interview with the Spanish edition of El Pais on the eve of his visit to Madrid, RIA Novosti reports. The diplomat called the sanctions infliction a short-sighted step. He noted that the economic restrictions imposed by Brussels were introduced "by direct order of Washington."

Sergey Lavrov added that the trickiest thing in this situation is that the United States are not hurt at all, they have no losses. But European sources indicated rather big losses of EU member-states. They have already exceeded 100 billion euros. The European business community's assessment is objective.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, it is very important that European politicians finally understand and realize this. Automatically, Brussels froze most of the effective cooperation mechanisms, Sergey Lavrov noted.

Earlier Russkiy Mir reported that every month German economy losses from anti-Russian sanctions more than 700 million euros. The Kiel Institute for the World Economy provides the information.

Damage from US sanctions against Russia for German business could reach a half billion euros, according to the Russian-German Chamber of Commerce. In the medium term prospect, the damage will exceed 800 million euros and almost half a billion in the worst case.

The Austrian economy suffers from sanctions. Austrian economists compare the introduction of restrictive measures with a shot in the own knee.
