Mariinsky Theater performs in Oman

The Mariinsky Theater has launched its on-tour performances in Oman on September 27, RIA Novosti reports.

Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor opera is staged at the Royal Opera House Muscat twice. Two groups of singers perform for the local audience. Yevgeny Nikitin and Roman Burdenko play Prince Igor, the role of Yaroslavna be performed by Tatiana Pavlovskaya and Anna Makarova.

In addition, the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater performs in Oman. Artistic director of the theater Valery Gergiev will conduct it. The musical evening is dedicated to the work of two Russian composers - Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev. Petersburg musicians perform Feu d'artifice, Symphony in C and a suite from the Firebird ballet by Stravinsky. The Alexander Nevsky cantata by Prokofiev is also performed with Anna Kiknadze as soloist.

An exhibition about the Mariinsky history is timed to coincide with the performances. The exposition located in the theatre foyer consists of the theatrical costumes, props, repertoire books. Also there are posters of historical performances, documents, photographs and video showing development of the Mariinsky Theater.
