Gergiev and Mariinsky Theater soloists start international tour

Valery Gergiev’s international tour begins with a performance at one of the largest venues in the world, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes. The famous Russian conductor is going to conduct at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where on Tuesday, March 3, the premiere of Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman directed by Francois Girard will take place. This is a joint project combining the National Opera of the Netherlands, the Quebec Opera and the Abu Dhabi Festival of Culture and Art. Mariinsky Theater soloists Evgeny Nikitin and Sergey Skorokhodov are engaged in the performance.

Valery Gergiev is going to conduct the first six performances. After that, he is going to perform in other American cities, as well as in Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia.

The Canadian public will listen to a concert of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gergiev. The violinist from Hungary Christoph Barati will perform as a soloist. Two performances of the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra with Daniil Trifonov will take place in the Dominican Republic. The Russian pianist is one of the most famous and sought-after musicians of his generation. 

The Mariinsky opera soloists Sergey Skorokhodov, Vladislav Kupriyanov are also going to perform in Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.

The famous Russian creative team will then go to the capital of Colombia, where an evening is planned on the stage of the Theater Major.

After that, the conductor will return to the United States, where he is going to perform with the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestras. In New York, the orchestras are going to perform music by Shchedrin, Rachmaninov and Stravinsky, in Chicago - the Leningrad symphony of Shostakovich.
