Mourning campaigns were held in Ukraine and Odessa on May 2, RIA Novosti informs. On May 2, 2014, 4 years ago, activists from the Right Sector nationalist political party banned in Russia destroyed a tented camp of Ukraine’s Federalization adherents. The latter tried to hide away from the outraged radicals in the House of Trade Unions, but the radicals set the building on fire. Around 50 people died there and more than 200 people were badly injured in that massacre.

Thousands of local residents traditionally bring flowers to the massacre scene. As previously, the campaigns are held at tightened security.

The commemorative campaigns were held in Russia, where people brought portraits of the dead to the Ukrainian Embassy and laid flowers in many European countries, such as UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland.

International organizations and social activists have many times pointed at stagnation in the investigation of that tragedy. They require punishing the guilty in the deaths of people. At this, nothing was done until present to clarify all circumstances of the massacre.

The criminal case on the events dated May 2 consists of several episodes including clashes and murders at the Greek Square and deaths of people in fire in the House of Trade Unions.

Last Autumn, the Odessa court justified the Anti-Maidan activists earlier accused of provoking their adherents to rally against Euro-Maidan. This, in its turn, caused mass clashes and the fire in the House of Trade Unions, in particular.

The investigation concerned one episode – collisions at the Greek Square where 6 people died. 19 people were detained on this case, 5 of them being arrested. The prosecutor’s office made an appeal to the court, which is to be reviewed at the beginning of this summer.

The investigation of the main episode about the massacre by the House of Trade Unions has not been finished yet.

The relatives of the dead have many times demanded of independent international investigation, but it was in vain. The Anti-Maidan adherents were found guilty.
