Opera and theater director Francesca Zambello from the USA refused to judge at the 2nd International Karol Szymanowski Competition in Katowice, Poland, due to the ban on performing Russian music at the competition, Gazeta.ru reports.

In her answer to the organizers of the music review, Zambello explained her decision to reject the offer by the fact that, although she does not support Russian politics, she opposes the abolition of "Russian history, music and art."

She announced that she was awarded the "For Merit to the Culture of Russia" medal, while remaining an American cultural figure. In particular, she is the artistic director of the Washington National Opera.

Earlier, it was reported that the organizers of the competition in Poland announced their refusal to perform works by Russian composers.
