Bulgarians support Sofia’s decision not to extradite Russian diplomats

10.04.2018

Almost 90 percent of the Bulgarian nationals support the decision of Sofia not to expel Russian diplomats out of the country, BulgarianPresidency website informs. Such were the results of the social poll conducted by Gallup international Bulgaria agency. Less than 10 percent of population disagree with the authorities’ point of view, 4 percent more are unaware of this situation at all.

More than 80 percent of the respondents believe that there are no facts proving Russia’s involvement into the so-called Skripal case. 6 percent of the poll’s participants believe that the evidence is good enough.

Note that earlier the Bulgarian Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachano claimed that Sofia would not be in haste to extradite the Russian diplomats out of the country. In his words, external political crises used to be earlier and would not stop in future, while we should not stop a dialogue with Moscow. The politician is sure that tearing off the ties is not beneficial for the Bulgarian population.

Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov has confirmed that no additional sanctions against Russia will be unleashed. He reminded that the Bulgarian Ambassador to Moscow was invited to Sofia for consultations which means that the country’s authorities reacted on the current situation. Bulgarian Prime Minister has remarked that the country is occupying a position of the Chair state of the UE Council and is obliged to keep communicative ties with Russia. He has also added that the Ambassador will return to Moscow as soon as his Easter vacation is over.
