Israel’s WWII Veterans’ Union celebrates 40th anniversary

15 Session of Union of the World War II Veterans fighting against fascism was held in the city of Rishon le-Zion (Israel) the day before. It was dedicated to 40th anniversary of this organization, according to press-service of Russian Cultural center in Tel-Aviv.

The honored guests of the session were Russian Ambassador to Israel Alexander Shein, Defense Minister of Israel Avigdor Lieberman, the head of Rossotrudnichestvo in Israel Natalia Yakimchuk as well as veterans and survivors of the Leningrad siege living currently in Israel.

Chairman of WWII Veterans’ Union Abram Grinzaid greeted the gathered audience. He gave a presentation underlining a prominent role of the Soviet people in liberation of Europe from fascists. He noted the importance of a draft law to the Knesset declaring May 9 to become an official state holiday in Israel.

Afterwards, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Russia to Israel Alexander Shein addressed the audience. He extended his gratitude to the veterans for their deeds in battles and their contribution to the Great Victory. Presenters and the audience thanked the Veterans’ Union for their efforts in prevention of history rewriting and in guarding the truth about heroic deeds of Soviet Union Peoples fighting “the brown plague”.
