An evening of Russian cinema was held in Pretoria, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports. The traditional celebration of Russian cinema was organized by the Russian Embassy in South Africa. Fans of Russian culture watched Nikita Mikhalkov’s The Barber of Siberia, released in 1998.

The head of the diplomatic mission, Ilya Rogachev, noted that the film was shot during a difficult historical period for Russia. Its goal was to unite the people, to remind them of the rich historical and cultural heritage of the country, which was to become the foundation for building a bright and happy future for Russia.

The Russian Film Festival took place for the first time in South Africa in early November. Residents of Cape Town were able to see modern Russian films of various genres.
