Colombia has proposed digitizing Spanish translations of Russian masterpieces, so that they can be read by Internet users. The author of the initiative is Ruben Dario Flores Arcila, the director of the Leo Tolstoy Institute of Culture in Bogota.
Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russian at the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. Mr. Arcila said emergence of digital Russian classics in Spanish will be a notable event in both Latin America and Russia, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.
The idea is to create electronic versions of translations of works by Alexander Pushkin, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolai Gogol and Anton Chekhov, published in the 1970-80s by the Progress publishing house. The Tolstoy Institute's head in Colombia mentioned that Russian classic books are archived in the publishing house.
