The Chinese audience will hear works by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev performed by Russian musicians, TASS reports. On Friday, December, 29, the Shostakovich Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra begins its tour in China.

The tour of the orchestra will cover five cities. Its first destination will be Zhuhai, then the musicians will visit Guangzhou, Wuhan and Xi'an. The final point of the tour will be in Fuzhou.

The orchestra performs abroad for the first time after a three-year break. Dimitris Botinis will take the place at the conductor's stand.

The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra became known in the world in 1942. It was the first to perform Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony in besieged Leningrad.

The tour was originally scheduled for the 2021-2022 season, but was delayed twice due to the pandemic.

Russian musicians perform in different Chinese cities. A week ago, the Nizhny Novgorod Academic Symphony Orchestra went on tour to China.

The next two years - 2024 and 2025 - will become cross years of culture between Russia and China.
