Over 240,000 Russian residents have returned home since the beginning of spring, according to RIA Novosti.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova compared the return of Russians to their homeland after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the ban on air travel with special operations. According to her, this process consisted of several stages and took about three months.

In March, Maria Zakharova said, many flew by scheduled airplanes. Then, for a couple of weeks, the MFA worked to evacuate organized tourists. Then for almost two months the Foreign Ministry took out people who wanted to get home.

Today, most Russians wishing to return to home are in the countries of Southeast Asia: in India and Thailand. Some Russian citizens also remain in the United States and Latin American. From the US, people are picked up by export flights, which are organized at regular intervals.

The situation is more complicated with Latin America, said the representative of the foreign ministry. People had to gather at one point, where many traveled on their own, helped each other. Embassies in these countries assisted people with paperwork. Then the Russians got on a plane that delivered them home.
