Thousands of Estonian residents donated money to projects that assist participants in World War II fighting against the Nazis. Despite the difficult times, the fund raiser in favor of veterans turned out to be a record one - more than 108 thousand euros, Baltija reports.

Donations were collected for two projects. The organizers of the I Remember, I Help project managed to raise more than 85 thousand euros. The funds will be used to pay for the services of carers and assistants, as well as the stay of veterans in institutions where they are provided with professional care.

In the framework of the Let's Help Veterans! campaign, which has been held since 2008, more than 23,500 euros have been raised. Part of the funds will be distributed among veterans whose pension is 520 euros and below, the other part will be spent on the purchase of orthopedic appliances, hearing aids and other medical supplies.

According to official figures, 255 front-line soldiers and 50 rear workers live in Estonia, their average age is from 90 to 100 years. Fundraising in favor of veterans continues, information about charity projects and promotions can be found on their official Internet sites.
