The rights of the Russian media in some OSCE countries are being violated as part of a campaign to reduce the Russian language in the world, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov is sure. He said this during a speech at Freedom of the Media and the Safety of Journalists in Russia and the OSCE Area: Challenges and Opportunities in the Digital Age conference. The forum opened on Wednesday, November 6, in the Russian capital, RIA Novosti reports. It works under the auspices of the office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media with the assistance of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The head of the MFA recalled that the Russian president spoke about this campaign the day before; it “aims to artificially and roughly reduce the space of the Russian language”.

Lavrov noted that the OSCE had to fundamentally evaluate the egregious cases of the fight against journalists. In addition, the international organization must take all necessary measures to stop the vicious practice of restricting access to a point of view other than the official one. He also called political censorship the denial of accreditation of Russian media to a conference on media freedom, which was held in the summer in London.

Previously, the organizers of the global press freedom conference denied admission to Sputnik reporters and RT without giving any reason. Later, the British Foreign Ministry said that RT and Sputnik "spread misinformation," so they were not accredited.

According to Lavrov, the goal of the British authorities is to blur the universal standards of media freedom, biased regulation of information resources, dividing them into friends and foes.
