Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Pankin urged UNESCO to safeguard Russian journalists abroad and residents facing challenges to the Russian language. This statement was made at 42 session of the UNESCO General Conference, TASS reports.

Mr. Pankin highlighted the need to combat discrimination in education, citing the forceful exclusion of the Russian language in the Baltic States. He also raised concerns about harassment faced by journalists serving Russian-speaking audiences in various countries.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly criticized the practice of categorizing media workers, languages, and cultural heritage into "their own" and "others," emphasizing the inappropriateness of applying double standards in these matters.
