Four young Russians became winners of the International Chemistry Competition, RIA Novosti reports. The intellectual tournament has been held for more than half a century, this year it was hosted by Paris.

Gold medals were brought from Paris by Muscovites Daniel Bardonov, Alexey Shishkin, Nikita Chernov and Mikhail Matveyev from Vologda. Representatives from more than eighty countries from all over the world fought for the victory.

The rector of Moscow State Lomonosov University Victor Sadovnichy recalled that this year the United Nations was declared the International Year of the Periodic System of Mendeleev. According to him, the current awards of Russian schoolchildren are vivid evidence that Russia, like a century and a half ago, remains the leading power in chemical science.

Sadovnichy expressed confidence that the young chemists had everything to become the Mendeleev of our time, to repeat his success. He assured that the oldest Russian university would be glad to see them among its students.

The team of teachers of the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University - Professor Vadim Eremin, Professor Alexander Gladilin and Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Alexander Belov are training the team.
