Russian sambists top medal standing of world championship in all disciplines

Russian sambo wrestlers have won the unofficial medal standings in all disciplines at the tournament in Bucharest, Romania, TASS reports. Athletes from 80 different countries fought for the victory.

The Russians received eight medals in sport sambo. Five of them are gold. Andrey Kubarkov, Stanislav Scriabin, David Oganisyan, Alsim Chernoskulov and Artyom Osipenko became the world champions.

In combat sambo, Russian team got nine medals with six gold ones. The champions are Rodion Askanakov, Nikolay Nesterov, Kamil Abdulazizov, Sheikh-Mansur Khabibulaev, Magomed Magomedov and Valentin Moldavsky.

Russian athletes won four gold, one silver and two bronze awards.

Vasily Shestakov, the head of the International Sambo Federation, is glad that Sambo becomes more popular. Even at this tournament, for the first time a French woman became a world champion. The Philippines develops Sambo. The professional level of this sport tends to increase.

Soon Sambo center should appear in Cyprus, Colombia, negotiations are underway with many other countries located in the Asia-Pacific region.

The next world sambo championship will be held in the South Korean capital.
