Russian sambo wrestlers win 17 gold medals at World Championships in Serbia

25 awards, including 17 gold ones, were won by Russian sambo wrestlers at the World Championships in Novi Sad (Serbia). The team became the first in the medal standings, TASS reports.

At the championship finale, Anastasia Valova (weight category - up to 56 kg), Olga Artoshina (over 80 kg), Samvel Ghazaryan (up to 82 kg) and Artyom Osipenko (over 100 kg) rose to the highest step of the podium. In combat sambo, Vladimir Lamanov (up to 52 kg), Sheikh-Mansur Khabibulaev (up to 68 kg) and Sultan Aliyev (up to 90 kg) won.

The Russian team also won silver and bronze medals on the last day of the competition. The Russians set the winning tone from the start of the World Cup, on the first day they won seven medals, the second day brought the national team nine awards.

The twenty-five awards won allowed the Russians to achieve a team victory by a wide margin. The Belarusians took the second place in the medal standings, having won 11 awards. The third place went to the Ukrainian team, which was behind the Belarusians in the number of gold medals.
