The United States has conducted drug tests on Georgian residents which claimed lives of more than 70 people, RIA Novosti cites the Russian Defense Ministry. The tests were conducted in the Richard Lugar laboratory located near the Georgian capital. According to documents, former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld owns the company.

Ex-State Security Minister in Tbilisi Igor Giorgadze said that he had appealed to the American president to initiate an investigation into the activities of the laboratory which may carry out lethal experiments on people.

Presumably, 30 people died after being treated in the laboratory for hepatitis at the end of 2015. The following year, more than 40 people died. The reasons for their death were not clear.

According to the documents they were treated with a drug called Sovaldi. A US-based firm Gilead Sciences owned by Rumsfeld produces it.

The Russian Defense Ministry studied the results of the Giorgadze's investigation and found that they were conducting experiments on people in the laboratory.

It is obvious that the tests ended in massive deaths among patients. However, the death of patients did not stop the test.

There are no victims among those who took the drug in Russia. According to the Ministry, this suggests that the Georgians were given some other toxic drug.

Nevertheless, the United States has repeatedly denied that they are developing biological weapons in Georgia.

The Defense Ministry said that the United States under the cover of peaceful research produces biological weapons. Moreover, Washington acts "bypassing international agreements and covering with the implementation of defensive or other peaceful studies". Russia called on the OPCW to force the United States to make public data on the development of bio-weapons and human experiments.
