Yuri Temirkanov to mark 80th anniversary with concert in Switzerland

The Symphony Orchestra of the Saint-Petersburg Philharmonia will perform in Switzerland, the Kultura TV channel reports.

Artistic team led by Yuri Temirkanov will perform on the Lucerne Music Festival. Geneva residents will also hear the works of Russian musicians: the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninov, symphonic suite Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, a fragment of Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker and a part of Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. The well-known Russian pianist Sergei Redkin palays as a soloist.

Tours of the Russian orchestra in Switzerland are timed with the celebrations dedicated to Yuri Temirkanov' anniversary. This year the famous conductor gets 80 years old. Next season his orchestra will perform in Korea, China, Germany, Austria and Slovakia.

As Russkiy Mir reported, Lucerne would also hold the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra run by Valery Gergiev.
