Parliament of Moldova votes for Russian TV restriction

07.12.2017

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has passed the draft law on restriction for Russian TV channels in two readings. These amendments were submitted by pro-European parties, TASS reports.

Socialists and Communists parties have voted against this law. Fraction of the latter has left the conference hall in protest. According to its representative Irina Shupak, this law will serve against Russia in the first place. She has reminded that Chisinau has forwarded friendship and cooperation agreement to Moscow.

Aforementioned restrictions were discussed for two years in Moldova. Council of Europe and OSCE have spoke against it. Afterwards the parlamentarian majority composed of Moldova Democratic party inserted corrections in this project but didn't send it to the EU expertise committee. The correction authors think that by this law they protect security of the informational space in Moldova

As another Communist party member comments, it is done for an informational support of the DPM head Vladimir Plakhotniuk during his US visit.
