Lavrov: the main danger in Syria comes from US supported fighters

15.11.2017

Russian Foreign MinistryThe main danger in Syria is foreign terrorists and fighters supported by US, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It was his comment to US State Department’s statement that Moscow promised Washington to achieve withdrawal of Pro-Iranian groups from Syria, TASS reports.

The diplomat has pointed out that Moscow discussed with Washington only functioning of de-escalation zone in south-western Syria and it is public information. Jordan took part in this discussion. In the course of preparation of this document, there were unformal consultations with Israel, as this zone is located very close to Golan Heights.

Minister underlined that the topic at negotiations with US was not withdrawal of pro-Iranian forces from Syria.

The major danger comes from different foreign terrorists, fighters who stick to the groups of armed opposition patronaged by US, Minister said.

According to Sergei Lavrov, Russia has many questions to US concerning their purposes in Syria. Lavrov has reminded that American forces spare terrorists from time to time. The last time such incident happened in Abu Kamal.

Russian Defense Ministry has informed today that US decided not to bomb a column of terrorists retreating from Abu Kamal. Besides, planes of the Western coalition were attempting to impede Russian Aerospace Forces’ attack.

Ministry has reported that this proves that advance of Syrian governmental forces in this region upset US plans to establish independent pro-American authorities to control territories at the Eastern bank of Euphrates.
