The Russian Foreign Ministry promised that Moscow's response to the seizure of the House of Moscow in Riga will certainly follow, RIA Novosti reports. According to Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova, it will be ''tough and extremely painful.''

She called the decision of the Latvian authorities complete lawlessness. Russia placed full responsibility for this step on Riga.

As Russkiy Mir reported, on January 11, the deputies of the Seimas supported the draft law on the confiscation of the cultural and business center in the final reading. Now its fate will be in the hands of the Cabinet of Ministers, which must make the decision by the end of March. There is a chance it will be sold at auction.

The Russian embassy considers the parliament's decision a legal arbitrariness and an act of state robbery. The actions of the Latvian authorities violate the basic principles of international law, which guarantee the inviolability of the property of other countries, the commentary says.

The embassy also promised that Riga would be required to compensate for material damage and losses incurred as a result of this decision.
