Archbishopric of Brussels and Belgium marks 80th anniversary

Russian Orthodox Church in Belgium and the NetherlandsCelebration of 80th anniversary of Archbishopric of Brussels and Belgium of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in the Holy Trinity church, according to the website of Russian Orthodox Church in Belgium and the Netherlands. Celebrations were headed by Archbishop of Brussels and Belgium Simon. He served the Divine Liturgy with other representatives of senior religious establishment. After its completion, there was a prayer about King Leopold the 3d who issued a decree providing the title of Archbishop to Alexander Nemolovsky. Russian Ambassador to Belgium Alexander Tokovinin and Belgian Josef Cardinal De Kesel were present at the Liturgy.

After the liturgy was over, Archbishop Simon congratulated the congregation and honored guests with this remarkable date and shared the history of establishing the Orthodox eparchy and the contribution made by his predecessors, Metropolitan Alexander and Archbishop Vasily, into supporting of Russian compatriots.

Representatives of the Georgian and Constantinopolitan patriarchies congratulated the chief of the Holy Trinity church and the Orthodox congregation with this anniversary.

A festive reception was arranged at Russian Embassy in Belgium in honor of the jubilee. Ambassador Tokovinin invited the religious leaders of the eparchy and some other well-known Russian compatriots and public figures living in the kingdom to this reception.
