© granted by Kino KlassikaBritish Festival of Soviet movies dedicated to the Russian revolution came to its climax. Today, October 26th is the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, which is marked with Sergei Eisenstein's October screening at the Barbican Hall, London, RIA Novosti reports.

Iconic film in a newly restored version is screened with a live score performed by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Frank Strobel. It will play the original score written by Austrian/German composer Edmund Meisel. Eisenshtein admired the Meisel's music but it was prohibited by Soviet government for being “too avant-garde.” The film was made in 1928; its restoration is done by the Munich Film museum. Cultural Foundation Kino Klassika organizes this remarkable event.

Let us remember, the festival has started on February, 17 with Battleship Potemkin, another cult movie by Sergei Eisenstein. Beginning of an Unknown Century film by Andrei Smirnov and Larisa Shepitko was shown on the International Women’s Day. It was produced 50 years ago for the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. The organizers reminded that this feature was forbidden in the USSR. The motion picture by Mikhail Kalatozov I am Cuba was also on the list of the festival events.

Lectures, seminars, meetings with film directors, screenwriters and cinema experts are planned in different British cities as part of the festival.

This year many events are devoted to Russian history and art. As we wrote before, a major exhibition Revolution: Russian Art from 1917 to 1932 has opened in the Royal Academy of Arts at the end of last week. Devoted to Soviet posters and graphics Red Star Over Russia exhibition will open on November, 8. The huge exposition Russian Revolution: Hope, Tragedy, Myths is dedicated to the historical date has opened in British Library.
