Russia will strip terrorists of Russian citizenship

Noble//wikimedia.orgNaturalized foreigners convicted of terrorism-related charges might be deprived of citizenship, the State Duma portal reports. Parliamentarians have unanimously passed the draft law in its third reading on July 19.

This law will take effect from September 1 2017.

The proposal to strip the citizenship was introduced to the State Duma following a deadly terrorist attack in the St. Petersburg metro. Kyrgyzstan native, suicide bomber Akbarjon Djalilov, has received Russian passport at the age of 16. The decision of depriving Russian nationality of the bomber was taken after the terrorist act.

As we informed before, the deadly blast occurred between Sennaya Ploschad and Technologicheskiy Institut subway stations in Saint Petersburg on April 3 this year took lives of 14 people, 64 were injured.
