The consent of the second parent, who is a foreigner, is no longer required for obtaining a Russian citizenship for a child, RIA Novosti reports. This requirement is excluded in the new version of the law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation". The amendments were adopted by the State Duma on Tuesday, April, 18.

Earlier, it was proposed to simplify the requirements for obtaining a Russian passport for more than 20 categories of persons, including compatriots and relatives of citizens of Russia and the former Soviet Union.

The list of reasons for deprivation of Russian citizenship has also grown. In particular, a person can be stripped off the citizenship for discrediting the Russian army.
