The procedure of the acquisition of Russian citizenship has been simplified for residents of the people's republics of Donbass, as well as for citizens of Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The document was published on the legal information portal on Monday, July 11.

Citizens of Ukraine, citizens of the DPR and LPR, as well as stateless persons permanently residing in the territory of the DPR, or LPR, or Ukraine can apply for Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure.

Earlier, the residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine were given the opportunity to apply for a Russian passport under a simplified procedure. The response to the application is granted no later than three months from the date of submission of the documents.
