Third Russian Film festival opens in Paris today, L’Observateur Russe reports. This year, the festival launches with the slogan “When Russians Sing”. Its main program includes music films made in USSR, including such classics as Hussar ballade, Carnival Night, A Man from the Boulevard des Capucines, and new musicals from Russia such as Dandy.

The festival pays tribute to the 100 year anniversary of Russian Revolution, and thus several documentaries on this historical event will be shown.

One of the creators and ideological inspirers of the event, French actress of the Russian descent Macha Méril noted that works of established as well as emerging film makers were chosen. The actress hopes that this festival will reanimate French public interest in Russian cinema.

“As of today, we have to strive to attract the audience attention. There was a big wave of interest 20-30 years ago that now has subsided. The French know just few Russian directors, like Konchalovsky and Zviaginzev. Meanwhile, each time when new movie is shown locals get very impressed. Especially film students, film critics and those who consider themselves film connoisseurs,” - commented Macha Méril.
