Russian poet Andrey Dementyev passes away

Andrey Dementyev passed away aged 89 yesterday on June 26. He did not live up to his anniversary less than a month, RIA Novosti reports.

According to his widow, Anna Pugach the poet returned from the hospital in Moscow last Thursday, where he got treatment for his cold. He felt well.

She has reminded that at the beginning of the month Andrey Dementyev made a speech at the book festival The Red Square. A lot of his admirers came to meet the poet who talked to his readers for a long time. People formed a long line to get his signature.

Of course, his age had its effect and he felt feeble, but retained strength of spirit and love for life. Andrei Dementyev continued to get ready for his anniversary. The celebrations were supposed to happen on July 20 in Tver.

Poet wanted his funerals to be held in his native land in Tver or Moscow.

Andrey Dementyev headed the literary magazine The Youth and was awarded with the State Award of the Soviet Union. The national-wide glory came to the poet when  songs were written after his poetry and were performed by many Soviet and Russian pop stars.
