Maria Lifar died in Paris

L’Observateur Russe website informed about the death of Maria Lifar who had greatly contributed to preserve Russian cultural heritage abroad.

A daughter of Russian immigrants, Maria Lifar was born in 1924 to a Russian émigré family in France. From her very young years she was helping people who tried to escape from Russian Revolution and white emigrants who lived in retirement home in Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois near Paris.

After that she worked for many years with famous choreographer Sergey Lifar who was her husband’s brother. Owning to her selfless service Lifar archive was saved.

After her husband passed away, Maria left many rare books, aquarelles, and Feodor Chaliapin death mask to the House of Russian émigré community named after Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The workers of Solzhenitsyn House visited her often, and she always helped those interested in the first wave of Russian immigration.

The funeral of Maria Lifar will take place at the in Sainte-Genevieve-des-Bois cemetery, where many immigrants found their peace.
