The anti-Russian sanctions of the West did not have an impact on Russia, causing significant damage to European countries and plunging them into a major economic crisis, a columnist for The Telegraph newspaper noted in his feature, RIA Novosti reports.

He noted that Russia was able to demonstrate amazing resistance to the imposed restrictions, which did not affect it, while causing great damage to European states.

This damage was reflected in the financial crisis, runaway inflation, stagnation and political problems. The author of the feature predicted that European sanctions are capable of ''destroying'' Europe, not Russia.

The observer noted that what is happening eloquently indicates that the Ukrainian events will not pass without leaving a trace for the countries of Europe, which will not be able to emerge from the situation in Ukraine ''relatively unscathed.''
