More than 3,600 students from the Middle East entered Russian universities last year, increasing the total number of students from this region to 32,000, said Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, in an interview with TASS. He represented the country at the 3rd conference of rectors of Russian and Arab universities, held in the UAE.

According to the Deputy Minister, students from the Middle East most often choose medical, technical and humanitarian majors. He noted that a number of Russian universities, including leading universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg, are planning to open branches in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and other countries of the Arab world.

Konstantin Mogilevsky said that in many Middle Eastern states there is an interest in developing educational cooperation with Russian universities in those areas that correspond to national development goals. He also announced that the Russian government intends to increase additional quotas for foreigners.
