Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov called the actions of the American authorities outrageous. In his opinion, Washington demonstrates double standards by refusing visas to Russians who were supposed to go to New York to join the participants in the UN Security Council events. The journalists accompanying the Russian delegation did not receive visas too, RIA Novosti reports.

The diplomat stressed that the United States is abusing its position as the host country of the UN headquarters.

Russia became chairman of the UN Security Council for a month from April, 1. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will chair the Security Council for a number of meetings.
