The monument to John of Kronstadt was erected in the United States, but Russian diplomats were not allowed to join the participants in the opening ceremony, RIA Novosti reports. It took place the day before, on October, 29.

The monument adorned the church in San Diego, California; the service was led by Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco and Western America.

The diplomats intended to attend the important event but Washington refused to approve the visit.

Two monuments of John of Kronstadt cast in bronze were delivered to the USA with the assistance of the embassy. They were created at the Artproekt Russian National Creative Workshop with the assistance of the Under the Protection of the Virgin Mary foundation. One monument was erected in the American capital near the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

2020 marked 30 years since the canonization of one of the most revered Russian saints.
