In 2020, more than 650,000 people took advantage of the facilitated procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship, TASS reports. According to the head of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, this number is almost a third higher than the indicators of 2019.

The prime minister recalled that the procedure for considering applications for obtaining citizenship has been simplified. And an interview for proficiency in Russian is of particular importance for those who move from Belarus, Kazakhstan or Ukraine.

The head of government also promised to study the possibility of expanding the repatriation program for compatriots.

Mikhail Mishustin called for proposals aimed at liberalizing the acquisition of Russian citizenship for those foreigners who speak Russian and consider themselves Russian. He noted that the authorities support the development of migration policy.
