Nearly 8,000 volunteers from 60 countries united the Discover the History of the Bolshoi project, RIA Novosti reports. It was organized by ABBYY and KAMIS, together with the management of the Bolshoi Theater.

Volunteers examined materials stored in the electronic database of the theater museum. According to the results of the work, they were able to collect information about almost 30,000 opera productions, 18,000 ballet performances. They added data on 5,000 concerts.

The museum staff is now engaged in the analysis of a huge array of data. Volunteers using artificial intelligence converted into digital format about 50,000 posters, more than 120,000 programs and 100,000 pictures. First, all historical documents were scanned, then information was extracted from them: the names of the performances, the names of artists, conductors, and more.

Among the volunteers, in addition to Russians, were residents of China, many European countries, India, Brazil, the United States, and Australia. They checked the data at each stage in order to bring electronic versions of documents as close as possible to the original.

Volunteers also engaged in the rubrication of historical photographs. They entered texts written on the back of images in an electronic database. Thanks to their efforts, photographs of many great artists - Maya Plisetskaya, Fyodor Chaliapin, Galina Ulanova and others - will be widely available.

The volunteers helped to collect interesting statistics about the history of the main stage of Russia.
