The works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Nikolay Gogol, Sergey Yesenin and other Russian classics were published in 2019 in English by publishers in the United Kingdom and other countries. The list, which also included publications by contemporary Russian writers, was compiled by the well-known translator Lisa Haydon-Espenschied, The Year of Literature reports.

The year has not ended yet, and the list is likely to grow. But now one can see the increased (compared with previous years) number of translations of Russian books for children. The translator emphasizes that she collected information about English translations of Russian writers on the websites of publishers and could have missed the release of some books.

In the past year, several classic novels by Russian writers were published - for example, the new translation of Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky was released.

Several collections of short stories by Nikolay Gogol, Leo Tolstoy and other writers were also published, publications acquaint the reader with less familiar works by classics. The book of memoirs by Mikhail Gorbachev, a collection of articles by the artist Vasily Kandinsky, the novel by Vasily Grossman Stalingrad, chapters from the epic novel by Alexander Solzhenitsyn The Red Wheel, a collection of poems by Sergey Yesenin and other publications were presented to the English-speaking public as well.

Many publications of contemporary Russian authors have also been published, some of which have been translated into English for the first time. The books of Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Evgeny Grishkovets, Anna Starobinets and other writers are among them.
