Russian books abroad enjoy growing demand

In the United States last year, the demand for books in Russian increased. According to the largest Russian publishing house Eksmo-AST, an increase in sales of Russian books in the indicated period amounted to 124%, RBC reports.

Experts explain the growth with interest in Russian culture abroad. It is noted that the list of the most popular Russian-speaking books in the United States was headed by child's primers, modern entertainment literature is also among the leaders.

Russian books are also in demand in the countries of the European Union and the CIS, in Israel, Turkey, China and other Asian countries.

Russian publishing houses stated the Russian classics - Leo Tolstoy, Fedor Dostoevsky and Anton Chekhov - are still very demanded abroad. According to experts, despite these trends, Western publishers almost stopped acquiring the rights to publish Russian authors.
