Kiev needs to maintain a dialogue with Moscow, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Elizaveta Yasko has stated. In her opinion, a refusal to speak with Russia will not bring any results, RIA Novosti reports.

The Verkhovna Rada deputy is confident that Ukraine should not ignore Russia. She believes that the country needs to defend its own interests, but at the same time it is necessary to stay informed. Earlier, the delegation of Ukraine decided to refuse to participate in the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. They explained this step by the fact that they did not consider the return of Russia to PACE to be correct.

Yasko believes that these actions show the consistency of Kiev’s position. Otherwise, the Ukrainian delegation would have agreed with the return of Russia, which she called “unfair”. Yasko herself will attend the session as a guest.

Russkiy Mir reported that Russia was deprived of the right to voice its opinion and vote at meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, to participate in the work of governing bodies, as well as in election observation missions in 2014. The reasons for this were the country’s position on the situation in Ukraine and the return of Crimea to the Russian Federation.

In June, 2019 PACE voted for the return of Russia. Russia called the PACE resolution a positive step and the victory of common sense.
