The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed surprise at the fact that the Russian TV channel RT in the UK was fined without any court decision.

On Friday, July 26, the British media regulator Ofcom announced that the Russian media had to pay two hundred thousand pounds, as its work revealed alleged "serious violations of the rules of broadcasting." According to Ofcom, it was able to establish that RT did not maintain impartiality. In total, seven irregularities were revealed in the news programs that aired last spring. They were dedicated to the cause of Skripale and the Syrian conflict.

Court hearings on the dispute with RT will be held before the end of the year.

The Foreign Ministry also expressed bewilderment about the amount of the fine. The Foreign Ministry recalled that other media received much less fines for inciting hatred and incitement to violence. And the Russian TV channel is very subjectively accused only of insufficient impartiality. In addition, the media regulator should pay attention to the British media, where misinformation, distortion of facts and deliberate substitution of concepts have become a systematic practice.
Preliminary hearings were held in court recently, where the TV channel was allowed to challenge the regulator's opinion. The judge put the position of Ofcom in question, RT representatives will be able to express their objections in detail.
