Metropolitan Longin's house (the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, UOC) burned down on the night of January, 3. The cause of the fire was arson, RIA Novosti reports. The house itself and all the property on the premises was completely destroyed by fire. Fortunately, the abbot of the Banchensky monastery, which is located in the Chernivtsi region, was not injured.

Back in the spring, Ukrainian special services accused Metropolitan Longin of inciting interreligious hatred due to the fact that he made unflattering remarks about the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU).

At the beginning of autumn, the Metropolitan’s case was brought to court. The monastery was searched by the representatives of law enforcement agencies. The abbot, together with the believers, stood up to defend his monastery. He called on the security forces who had cordoned off the monastery to leave the believers alone.

Earlier, the Kiev regime launched a media campaign agaisnt UOC, allowed the seizure of churches, opened criminal cases on fictitious charges, and seized the cradle of Russian monasticism - the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
