41st Moscow International Film Festival begins its work

Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) starts on Thursday, April 18, in the Russian capital, TASS reports. The opening film will be Emperor of Paris. The feature will be presented to the public by the author, director Jean-François Richet. 


Thirteen features are going to compete for the main prize. The program of the competition includes three works of Russian directors. Among them is Sunday by Svetlana Proskurina, which shows one day in the life of a Russian official. Epidemic. Vongozero by Pavel Kostomarov, a feature about an unknown virus found in Moscow, will be shown next to The sun does not set over me by Lyubov Borisova. Russian features are going to compete with Latvian-German Father of the Night, French Honeymoon in Zgierz,  Iranian My life in the second year, Turkish Trap, Finnish Void and others.

Note, the features would be evaluated by the jury led by South Korean director Kim Ki Duk. The jury also includes Russian actress Irina Apeksimova. Besides the novelties of the Russian cinema, the public will be able to enjoy Festival hits and Free Thought programs. Special projects will be dedicated to the cinema of Italy, Hungary and Turkey. There will also be a short films section. Documentaries from a separate program will be selected for the Oscar. It includes documentaries about famous athletes Pele and Mohammed Ali. The Age of Avengers special program will also be presented during the festival. 

Ralph Fiennes will bring to Moscow his latest work Nureyev. The White Raven. The feature was almost completely filmed in Russian. British artist and director dedicated it to the story of the great dancer.

Odessa Cinematographic program will be dedicated to the directors Stanislav Govorukhin and Kira Muratova who passed away last year, as their work was connected with the Odessa Film Studio. In addition, the memory of directors Marlen Hutsiev and George Danelia will also be honored.
