Films from 60 countries will be screened at Moscow International Film Festival

The Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) starts in Moscow on Thursday, April, 20, TASS reports. Its program includes about 200 films from 60 countries.

More than 30 world premieres are scheduled to take place. The festival will become the 45th in a row.

Boris Khlebnikov's "Bullfinch" was chosen as the opening film. The director also became one of the authors of the script, which is, written together with Natalia Meshchaninova,  based on the book by Georgy Vladimov "Three Minutes of Silence". The story tells about the fishing vessel "Bullfinch", which got into a storm. The film starred Alexander Robak, Timofey Tribuntsev and others.

The Spanish sports drama ''42 Seconds'' will be screened at the closing.

More than 20 films will compete for the main prize of the MIFF. Among them are two works by Russian filmmakers - "14+ Sequel" by Andrei Zaitsev and "First Love" by Svetlana Proskurina. Films from Serbia, China, Mexico, Japan, Bangladesh and other countries are also represented in the main competition. The jury will be headed by Indian director and producer Rahul Ravel.He will be accompanied by Russian actors Alexei Guskov and Svetlana Ivanova, actress from Kazakhstan Samal Yeslyamova, director and screenwriter from Colombia Ciro Guerra.

Seven films entered the documentary film competition. Three of them represent Russia. These are ''Fathers'' by Yuri Mokienko, ''Let Me Win'' by Maria Finkelstein and Svetlana Muzychenko, ''The History of Russian Prisons. Vladimir Central'' by Yulia Bobkova. Other nominees for the title of best documentary will be the Chinese film "Into the Shaolin", the Iranian "Motm Shoku House", the Israeli "Anna and the Egyptian Doctor" and the German-Spanish "La Singla".

16 films were submitted to the Short Film Competition. Among them is the Russian film ''Hole. A story in 9 scenes''.

Seven films by Russian directors were included in the Russian Premieres program. The competition features contemporary auteur Russian cinema.
