The military cemetery where the Red Army soldiers are buried will open in the city of Radom after large repairs. The servicemen died during the liberation of Poland, NewsBalt reports.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for the end of the month. Its participants are representatives of Russian and Polish public organizations, including the head of the Commonwealth of Kursk Jerzy Tyc. The Russian ambassador in Warsaw Vladimir Andreev, representatives of the Russian defense ministry etc. will join them.

The funds for the cemetery reconstruction were allocated by the Kronstadt Naval Cathedral charity foundation within the framework of the Immortal Names project. It is aimed at the preservation of the military memorial heritage and historical memory abroad.

According to Russkiy Mir, at the beginning of 2017 the foundation took part in a military cemetery reconstruction in the Polish village of Milejczyce in the east of the country. It holds the remains of more than 1500 Red Army soldiers who liberated the country from the Nazi invaders. The memorial had suffered from vandal attacks.

According to foundation leader Andrey Kononov, the importance of this project cannot be overestimated as the situation around the monuments to the Poland liberators is very alarming.

He noted that after the Polish authorities decision to destroy the monuments in accordance with the decommunization law it became clear that all necessary measures should be taken to protect them.

80 soldiers were buried in the cemetery in the city of Radom. The project will be continued and another memorial in the village of Horyn in the Gmina Jastrzebia will be restored.
