Theater Pushkin ball took place the day before in the United States capital city, TASS reports. Traditionally, representatives of the International Festival of Russian-speaking Children and Youth theaters are invited at the ball to the Russian Embassy.

The event is held for the 8th time already. The festival’s agenda includes book fairs and exhibitions of young artists, courses and master-classes, organized for the young performers and their teachers. Seminars for the Russian language teachers are also arranged.

According to the organizers, the key festival task is to provide an opportunity for children from families of the Russian natives and of other ex-Soviet Republics to communicate with each other. Besides, the festival enables guests to plunge into the Russian culture head over heels and practice the Russian language intensely.

As per Svetlana Sokolova, the head of the American Association of the Russian Language, Culture and Education, the Pushkin’s ball is held in the Russian style. Its topic this year is Pushkin’s Fairytale about Tsar Saltan.

Around 600 people took part in the theatrical ball. Parents brought children who participated in different contests and quizzes. Winners of the contest Arts’ Planet had a performance too.
Bands from all over the world competed for the victory in the theatrical festival. They demonstrated theater performances on various topics in different genres.

Tours on literary places of Washington were organized for children. They are to see the Pushkin’s monument, attend the museum of Marina Tsvetaeva and walk along the lane of the Russian poets and composers.
