Roman Filipov/ Odnoklassiki

Funerals of Major Filipov who died several days ago in Syria will take place in two days. At the request of his relatives, he will be buried in his native land, in Voronezh, Russia, TASS informs.

As per the Russian Defense Ministry, the ceremony will be arranged with military honors. The Ministry has advised that the body of the heroic pilot was returned thanks to the joint actions of Russian military intelligence and our Turkish colleagues.

Roman Filipov was awarded the title of the Hero of Russia for Heroism, Courage and Bravery in the performance of his duty. The corresponding decree was signed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin today.

It is worth reminding that on February 3, his jet was attacked by the terrorists. The warplane was hit by a missile from the portable air-defense system during the patrol-flying mission over the safe zone in Idlib.

He managed to report about the attack and was trying to stay in the air until the very last moment. The pilot managed to eject from the aircraft and died on the surface. Surrounded by the terrorists, he tried to shoot back the attack killing the two people. When the officer understood that he would not survive, he preferred to die. Crying “That’s for the guys!', Filipov detonated a grenade.
