06.02.2018

Major Roman Filipov, pilot of the downed SU-25 in Syria will get the title of the Hero of Russia postmortem, RIA Novosti informs. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, his jet was subject to a shooting attack of terrorists. The warplane was hit by a missile from the portable air-defense system during the patrol-flying mission over the safe zone in Idlib.

He managed to report about the attack and was trying to stay in the air until the very last moment. The pilot managed to eject from the aircraft and died on the surface. Surrounded by the terrorists, he tried to shoot back the attack killing the two people. When the officer understood that he would not survive, he preferred to die. Crying “That’s for the guys!', Filipov detonated a grenade.

Two terrorist groupings claimed that they hit the Russian war aircraft.
After the pilot’s death, the territory of Islamic groupings was attacked by Kalibr cruise missiles and then the Syrian forces and Russian aviation cleaned up the grounds.

Presidential Press Secretary Dmitri Peskov has confirmed that Russian military forces took measures on stopping terrorist activities in the surroundings of the attack.

Western mass media publishing the materials about the pilot’s death called him a Russian hero, Tsargrad informs.
