The student of the Slavic Institute of Lausanne University Alexander Yurasov translates the diary of his great grandfather, the white émigré, into the French language, according to the Wings Club website.
The ancestor of Russian migrants in the fourth generation was born and grew up in Switzerland. He received the family relic from his father – diaries of his great grandfather for the period of 1920 – 1923 with description of the Civil War events, shootings of the white army officers in Feodosia, escape of Yuri Yurasov from Russia and the first years of life at the foreign land.
The diary contains detailed descriptions of the events of that period and reference of different sources of activities, in particular, Trotsky, Wrangel and others. Thus, Alexander Yurasov revealed the personal story of his great grandfather serving in the General Denikin’s army as an artillerist as well as tragic pages of Russia’s history which started in the 20s.
The pages of the diary become more and more distressing in 1920 and after his father’s arrest 22 year old Yuri Yurasov flees the country never to return to Russia.
Alexander Yurasov has shared that the last pages of the diary were written by his great grandfather in 1923 when he was in Poland. He has also added that he would like to write a master’s degree work based on this diary.
Yuri Yurasov moved to France and got residency of this country. He died in 1978 aged 80.
